I’m an Electronic producer/rapper and one half of the group Laya Laya.
Starting out as a Drum and Bass and Garage club MC before progressing to DJing and writing whole songs, my journey into production was born from a desire to create a particular sound as a backing track for my vocals.
After a brief stint as a backing singer in a band I had to go through speech therapy for a year, and during this time I honed my production skills, taking courses at Berklee School of Music Online, and later at Point Blank Online.
My lyrics are a mixture of comedy and commentary, with my songs aiming to be entertaining, thought provoking and danceable at the same time.
My sound is a musical summary of the city that I have lived in for most of my life, apart from uni. It is a microcosm of the globe. It is London. My music is a reflection of the UK’s and particularly London’s musical melting pot with inspiration drawn from Hip-Hop, Grime, Dancehall, Rock, R’n’B, Drum and Bass, House, UK Garage, Electronica, World and Spoken Word.
Highlights so far include airplay on BBC Radio 1, 1xtra and BBC Asian Network, performing at Trafalgar Square, hosting a residency in Germany, as well as a production credit on a Vybz Kartel track.
My influences include Dr Dre, Kanye West, Adam F, MJ Cole, High Contrast, Wookie, Outkast, Pharell, Basement Jaxx, Wilkinson, Alix Perez and Mura Masa.
